A full home energy audit includes a blower door test, an infrared camera and a combustion safety check. In the Denver area it costs $100 through Xcel's own program. Two independent auditors list $335 and $375 before Xcel's rebate.
Home Energy Squad Plus, Xcel's audit
CLEAResult runs it for Xcel. It's $100 for a limited time, normally $150, for Xcel customers with gas or electric service. Xcel's audit rebate is already off that price, so there is no check to wait for.
The visit includes the tests, a written report, and the Squad's installs: LED bulbs, weather-stripping for one outside door, showerheads and faucet aerators. Income-qualified customers get the visit free. It costs the same at any home size.
An independent audit
These are the published prices from two registered Xcel audit contractors, read October 13, 2026:
| Auditor | Price | With Xcel gas |
|---|---|---|
| REenergizeCO | $335 | $135 |
| EnergySetter | $375 | $175 |
Neither price changes with home size. GB3 Energy Smart Homes lists a longer audit, about four hours with duct leakage and room pressure tests, at $600 after Xcel's rebate.
How Xcel's rebate works
- Xcel pays back 60% of the audit price. The auditor must be on Xcel's registered list, and you can get one every two years.
- The cap depends on the tests: $100 for a walk-through, $160 with a blower door, $200 with infrared.
- The infrared rebate needs Xcel gas service, or Xcel electric with electric heat. With Xcel electric and another heating fuel, the cap is $160, so a $335 audit costs $175.
- It covers houses and buildings of up to four units.
- Without Xcel service you pay the full price.

Common questions
Do I pay the full price up front?
For an independent audit, yes. Xcel's rule is that you pay the auditor, get the report, then apply. Both Denver auditors above file the rebate for you.
