About Energy Audit Cost

Who runs this site, where the audit prices and savings figures come from, and what we do and don't do.

Energy Audit Cost shows what a home energy audit costs in the Denver area after Xcel's rebate, and when the work it leads to pays back.

It is not affiliated with Xcel Energy, CLEAResult or any auditor named on the site. Book an audit with them directly.

What we do and don't do

We don't do energy audits, insulation or air sealing. For those, use Xcel's participating contractors or an auditor on Xcel's registered list.

When you send an audit report or photos, the request goes to the Denver heating and cooling contractor that does our estimates and installs. It prices heat pumps, heat pump water heaters and furnaces. The photos on this site are from its installs.

Where the numbers come from

  • Audit prices are each provider's own published price page, read on October 13, 2026: CLEAResult's Home Energy Squad Plus page, REenergizeCO, EnergySetter and GB3 Energy Smart Homes for full audits, and e3 Power and Blower Door Testing of Chaffee County for tests on their own. They are market prices. Providers change them, so confirm before you book.
  • Xcel's rebate follows Xcel's Home Energy Audit page: 60% of the price, capped at $100, $160 or $200 by the tests done.
  • The payback uses ENERGY STAR's figure for sealing and insulating, up to 10% of a year's energy bills, and credits it to the work you enter, never to the audit alone. The payback it shows is an illustration at 10% a year; your house may save less or more.
  • The bill in the payback starts at about $180 a month: a typical Colorado household's gas and electric use from the Energy Information Administration, priced at Xcel's October 2026 residential rates before taxes and city fees. Type your own.
  • Heat pump and water heater prices are typical ranges from our recent estimates in the Denver area, rounded to the nearest $100. Half of recent Denver estimates fall inside each range.
